Hosakote Lake is located near Hosakote town and Taluk, Bengaluru Rural District. The lake has an area of about 808 acres. Due to the area of the lake and the good environment, not only local birds like storks but also flamingos found in European countries migrate and stay for a month or two and then return. Teams of bird lovers arrive on Saturdays and Sundays to capture them in photographs. During the bird census, 227 species of birds were found, 40% of which are migratory birds. If developed as a tourist destination, it will help to protect them. Also, it is a good place for sightseeing and 500 to 1000 bird lovers visit in a month. It will gain fame by visiting more number of tourists and getting better experiences.

Over the years, the lake has become a crucial habitat for numerous resident and migratory bird species. The Lake is a freshwater wetland ecosystem that plays a vital role in maintaining regional biodiversity. The lake is home to over 266 species of birds till now, both resident and migratory last year 162 species birds found such as bar-headed geese, painted storks, spot-billed pelicans, and various species of ducks, egrets, and herons. 10 species of mammals, 19 species of reptiles, 17 species of frogs, 33 species of Butterflies and 6 species of dragonflies are known to occur at the lake in addition to about 67 species of plants (herb, shrubs, climbers and trees). It provides habitat for fish, amphibians, and aquatic plants, contributing to the food web that sustains bird populations. Hosakote Lake is an important site for bird conservation, playing a critical role in supporting avian diversity.
